    A New Model for the Greek Labour Market

    Hosted by The Hellenic Observatory HONG KONG THEATRE, CLEMENT HOUSE Effie Achtsioglou, Greek Minister of Labour, Social Security and Social Solidarity will focus on the country’s state of play and the government’s strategy towards sustainable and fair growth.


    The Minister will highlight the importance of the steps taken towards regulating the greek labour market and she will present the specific policies implemented from the current government, with a focus on the policies that have produced notable results on tackling unemployment and undeclared work, the increase of the minimum wage and the restoration of the principles of collective bargaining.

    Workers’ rights beyond austerity: Setting the agenda for renewal at the Greek Ministry of Labour

    Έφη Αχτσιόγλου -Effie Achtsioglou, Minister of Labour, Social Security, and Social Solidarity of Greece, in Conversation with Nicola Countouris, Professor of Labour Law, (UCL Faculty of Law) on labour law and leadership.

    A discussion around the following themes: • running a crucial ministry at a time of austerity; • negotiations with the creditors (the Troika of the European Commission, ECB, IMF); • protection of labour rights at a time of austerity, with reference to international obligations (ILO Conventions) and human rights (ECHR); • women in government.

    The discussion will be followed by a drinks reception. All are welcome to attend.
